Tigers Win!

The South Pasadena Tigers varsity boys basketball team won another CIF playoff game tonight. At home. After winning last Friday against Carpinteria in Carpinteria, they played at home tonight against Winward. From the SPHS website:

The SPHS boys varsity basketball team defeated Winward High School @ So. Pas on Tuesday 52-51 and advance to the CIF IIIAA quarter final game to be held on Friday, 2/23/07. In front of a capacity crowd at SPHS, Josh Parish made a free throw to complete a 3 point play with 1.8 seconds remaining to ice the victory for the Tigers. Good luck in the next roung. GO TIGERS!

Of course, the real news from the night was: Denzel was at the game! Denzel Washington, that is. Live and in person. Not a big deal in Los Angeles, I suppose, where everyone lives next door to a movie star. And yet, evidently Denzel at the game to cheer on his son, who plays for the Winward team.

My son, Mark, the SPHS Sports Commissioner this school year, said this was the most exciting game he had ever seen.

Friday night, the Tigers play at home Friday night against Price High, ranked #2 in the CIF Southern Section Division whatever SPHS is in! Go Tigers! Go Ryan and DY, and Amir, and Bryce, and Josh, and Josh, and, hey, I know or have coached all you guys!
