Paul Newman

Paul Newman is one of my favorite actors, and he has now passed away at age 83.

Many of Newman's films are ones I have on DVD: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Verdict, The Color of Money, The Sting, Cool Hand Luke, and others. His playful irreverence was always a draw for me, perhaps as a sort of alter ego. Newman's films were one of the few things I could share and enjoy in common with my parents.

Some of my favorite movie lines come from Newman's films. Who can forget, "What we have here, is a failure to comunicate?" from Cool Hand Luke? And what of the classic line in Butch Cassidy: "Boy, I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals."

Newman's company, "Newman's Own", has also been a favorite of mine, not just for the goodness of the products, but also for its contributions to charity. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camps for kids have been an inspiration to me for years.

Godspeed, Mr. Newman. Thanks for entertaining and inspiring us. You will be missed.
